Emma Blyth |
|
Emma's love of outback Australia is obvious as you view her latest works titled ‘Sunburnt’. Emma loves to transform iconic Australian locations, as well as not so traveled destinations, into bold artworks with her unique style. Emma employs broad brushstrokes with bright colours, accentuating the amazing natural colour schemes of the outback, igniting memories of glorious sunsets and sunrises, and encounters with our amazing native flora and fauna. Emma and her partner recently spent 3 months traveling the ‘top end’ of Australia, igniting Emma’s passion for outback Australia. Camping out the back of a ute, navigating some of Australia’s extreme four wheels drive routes. The amazing waterholes & waterfalls of the Kimberley, Litchfield and Kakadu were a huge inspiration along with the Daintree and Cape York. Visiting several aboriginal rock art galleries on the journey was a highlight, along with barramundi fishing amongst the crocodiles, watching the amazing birdlife, listening to howling dingoes around the camp and a close encounter with a cassowary. Emma’s fun simplistic style of art stems from her love of life on the road. “Camping on a river under a boab tree surrounded by brolgas, bush turkeys & cockatoos. Whistling kites hovering in the smoke of our campfire. Barramundi jumping as my man catches a mudcrab and cooks it on the coals for dinner. I love capturing the simplicity of life in this unique part of our country on canvas”. |

Helen Norton |
|
“I pondered the appearance of familiar and unfamiliar ‘creatures’ – the known and unknown beings - which evolve as shapes and forms when one is engaged in the most early raw stages of a painting. The paint oozes and drips, pools and floods, ravishes and erodes; and if allowed to do so in the actions and mind of the artist, new or derived creatures step forward… Such are the joys of painting.” (Helen Norton 2010) |

Broome Artist James Down in "Moments of Time" explores the early pearling history of Broome through to the present day in a diverse program of historical, landscape, and whimsical themes. Through historical records James captures the essence of a bygone era and interweaves it with beautiful landscape depictions, and the occasional tongue-in-cheek look at life in Broome. James also incorporates some of the colourful pith helmets the Broome Pearling Masters were renowned for wearing, combining the colours and history of Broome on a practical piece of fashion - a must wear at the races.
